MARIA FRANCISCA "KIKA" OBREGON GARCIA 4/2/32-1/17/2015 Francisca "Kika" Garcia journeyed home to the arms of Jesus on January 17, 2015 at the age of 82 in Edinburg, Texas. She leaves a legacy of love and selflessness having touched the lives of many through her great acts of service and kindness. Kika lived in Edinburg, TX the majority of her life. She was very proud to be an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. She was an honorary member of the Altar Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked for several years as a teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School, followed by many years as a special education teacher with Mission Independent School District having retired in May 2000 after 21years of service. Kika's greatest loves, were God, her beloved husband Silvestre, who preceded her in death in 2008, and all of her family. Kika also had a very special and great love for children. She was the oldest of 12 siblings and adored her mother and father. She was proud to be the oldest and in this way God set the stage for the impact she would have on countless children who would cross her path throughout the course of her life. Kika often told stories of her joy in using money she earned to buy baby clothes for her youngest siblings or helping her beloved "Mama" to look out for them. She greatly loved all of her nieces and nephews and made it a point to pray for them and remember them on their birthdays and anniversaries with a call or a card. She had many godchildren whom she loved and she had a positive impact on the lives of countless students from Sacred Heart and St. Joseph both in school and religious education. Additionally she had great love for children with intellectual and physical disabilities and was passionate about focusing on their strengths and teaching them to believe in themselves. Perhaps the greatest example of her gift for working with the children was the tremendous impact she had on her grandchildren. No doubt her 9 grandchildren (range 19 yrs to 6 months) were her greatest treasures. She had a way of making each of them feel they were the most special. She was an amazing listener, they always knew how much she believed in them and they could always count on her prayers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Bernarda Obregon, her husband, Deacon Silvestre Garcia and her sister, Bernard Mary Obregon, R.S.M. Left to cherish her memory are siblings: Mary O. (+Gus) Sanchez of Houston, Sister Olivia Obregon R.S.M. of Laredo, Dominga Obregon of Edinburg, Gilberto (Nancy) Obregon of Sharyland, Eligio (Irene) Obregon of San Antonio, Marta O. (Mickey) French of Killeen, Roberto (Ofelia) Obregon of Pharr, Ana (+Joe) Perez of Pharr and Zita (Ron) Colvin of Edinburg; her four sons: Deacon Silvestre (Lucy) Garcia of Edinburg, Gerardo "Jerry" (Grace) Garcia of San Antonio, TX, Michael (Jessie) Garcia of Seguin and Jaime "Jimmy" (Dolly) Garcia of Austin. Additionally, she leaves 9 grandchildren (Aaron-19, Isabela-15, Teresa-14, Carolina-11, Cailyn-9, Ana Lucille-6, Mathew-5, Maria-4 and Emily-5 months) to carry on her legacy of love for Jesus and selfless dedication and service to others. Kika will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. Please join our family as we celebrate Kika's life and give thanks for the 82 years in which He blessed us with her presence. Viewing will take place on Monday, January 19, 2015, from 5 to 9 pm with a 7 pm Rosary at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. My grandmother is my angel. My family has always said her prayers were a direct line to heaven. She knew my heart in a way that no one else did, and I feel her presence with me in the hardest times. Her and my grandfather continue to be my greatest spiritual role models, and I feel profoundly blessed to have had them to lead the way for my family.

Garcia and Obregon Family.
My prayers and thoughts are with you. What good memories of Miss Obregon as I knew her at Sacred Heart School and as "Kika" growing up as friends of her siblings and cousins; Robert, Ana, Zita and cousin Joey. She continued to be my spiritual inspiration in high school and college. I will always remember her.
