Charlene M. Engebretson, 79, of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully in her sleep the night of January 27, 2015 following continuous medical and assisted living care since suffering a stroke in April, 2014. Charlene was both a homemaker while raising her family and served the community for nearly 20 years as a substitute Teacher Aide, actively working with special needs students enrolled in Clark County School District, primarily with Helen J. Stewart School. A Las Vegas resident since 1962 after moving from Duluth, Minnesota, Charlene shared her life, as a devoted wife of 55 years, with “hero” husband Elwood. (Elwood passed in 2007 following his brief battle with cancer after having served “God and Country” as a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, decorated Korean War veteran, Legionnaire and retired firefighter with City of Las Vegas Fire Department’s Station #1. ) Now reunited and looking over us together, Charlene and Elwood leave a loving legacy of six children, fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, now residing in several states. Charlene was born on June 2, 1935 in Virginia, Minnesota (along with her surviving twin sister Charlotte Becker of Saginaw, Minnesota) to parents Fred and Anna Marie Stickney. Charlene’s surviving children are: daughter Christine Mooney and spouse Bruce of Las Vegas; daughter Sandy Baker and partner Jack of Oceanside, CA; son Richard and spouse Lizabeth of Las Vegas; son Ronald and spouse Lynda of Las Vegas; daughter Kathryn Hilton and spouse Robert of Ontario, CA; daughter Melissa and spouse Randy of Arizona; her grandchildren are: Brian; Chris, Gina, Mitchell, Jessica, Regan, Ronald, Erik, Jennifer, Kristin, Ethan, Savannah, Harley and Alexandria; and her great-grandchildren are: Devynn, Destiny, Connor, Rayleen, Ayrika, Tuolumne, Thalia and Addlyn.
