RIPLEY – James E. Dees, 76, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley.
He was born April 27, 1938, to the late George Irvin Dees and Bernice Moore Kelly. Mr. Dees was a member of Concord Baptist Church, a 32nd Degree Mason, a Gideon, a mom and dad to all his children, and a true public servant. With a compassionate heart, James never forgot his humble rearing and life. After graduating from Jumpertown High School, he wore many hats; but, one of his greatest joys was serving the people of Tippah County as their Circuit Clerk for 28 years. One of his former secretaries described him as ""a gem, one of the best, a true gentleman and a friend to many.""
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, February 4, 2015, in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Walker officiating. Burial will be in Concord Church Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Regina Kuykendall of Booneville; three sons, Mike Dees and Bruce Dees, both of Ripley, and Chris Dees of Starkville; one stepdaughter, Alicia Basham (John) of Falkner; and a very special friend, Honorable Kelly Luther; one sister, Evonne Garrett Clay) of Blue Mountain; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Dees of Greenfield, Tenn., Donna Murr of Logan, W.Va., Annie Margaret Mauney (Noby) of Corinth and Lillie Wallis of Baldwyn; five grandchildren, Cassidy Jumper (Torie) of Marietta, Hope Barkley (Jake) of Booneville, Halley Kirkman (Adam) of Ripley, Ashley Dees, Ryan Dees (Nikki), all of Ripley; eight great-grandchildren; Gunnar Kirkman, Emma Barkley, Brayden Kirkman, Skylar Barkley, Glen Ashton Jumper, Mya and Cruz Wilson, and Hattie Kirkman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wanda Jean Wallis Dees; and two brothers, Bill and John L. Dees; and two brothers-in-law, Jack and Bob Wallis.
Pallbearers will be Honorable Kelly Luther, Honorable Andrew Howorth, Honorable Bobby Elliott,
Mr. Keith Bullock, Honorable Richard Babb and Honorable Jim Hood. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Bud Green, Mr. Lyle Bullock and Mr. Michael Smith.
