West Valley City-Our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and dearest friend was tragically taken from us early Monday morning, February 9, 2015. Mike was born December 5, 1947 to Vernon and Dora Nielsen. He married his sweetheart Bonnie Jean Christensen on Friday, April 13, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mike was proud of his Danish ancestry and served an LDS mission in Denmark from 1967 to 1969. He held many callings in the LDS church including executive secretary, Sunday School teacher, chorister, choir director, Young Men's leader, scouting, High Priest leadership, and activities committee. He helped in several stake play productions and in building floats for the Days of '47 Pioneer Parade.
Mike served in the Utah Air National Guard for over 30 years and had a deep love for our country. He always had a kind word and showed love and respect to everyone he met. Bonnie and Mike were avid basketball fans beginning with the Utah Stars to the Utah Jazz when they arrived in 1979. He was also a big Ute fan. Mike was a very talented man. He was a jack of all trades. He and his wife loved music and shared their musical talents in multiple ways. Mike loved to travel and was always planning his next adventure.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; his three children, Danielle Anne, Michael Abel (Kate), Rebecca Elizabeth; sister, Renee (Dale) Jamison; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.

It was such a shock to learn of Mike's passing. I worked with Mike for almost 6 years and every morning I went in and he was there he would have a kind word or ask how my wife was doing after her transplant surgery. He truly was not a boss but a real friend and we will never forget him. We know that you will be together again and it is hard to be without him but I know he loved his family very much. He talked about you all the time. He always had something good to say about everyone. Peace be with you all during this very tough time but know that he is there with you watching over you.
