FAIRVIEW - Gerald R. "Buck" Hilton Sr., 81, Fairview, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
He was born Nov. 25, 1933, in Stockham, Nebraska, to Robert Taft and Frances Elda (Wilcox) Hilton.
He married Shirley J. Sornberger in Galesburg on Nov. 12, 1953. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Jackie Hamm of Canton, Gerald Jr. (Patty) Hilton of Fairview, Barbara (Rodney) Schisler of Fairview, and Terry Spradlin of Pekin, 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and sister, Lois (Clemon) Effland of Terre Haute, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Liz Collins; and sister, Delores Meyers.
Buck was a telephone repairman, working for Mid Century Telephone for 30 years. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, past member of the Farmington Moose Lodge, the American Bowling Congress, Canton Bowling Hall of Fame, past mayor and trustee of the village of Fairview and the Fairview Fire Department for 22 years.
He was a Korean War Army veteran serving three years active and reserves 1976-1993. He was a member of Roy Miller Post 644 American Legion in Fairview.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
