Dr. Violet Patton, 88, of Roswell, GA, passed away on February 26, 2015. She was born in Detroit, MI to Russell and Alice Blanchard. On June 2, 1945, she married Vincent W. Patton. She was a teacher and administrator for K-9 in Detroit schools from 1949-1964. Violet received her Doctorate of Education at Indiana University. She was the professor at several universities in the South East, including Georgia State University and Brenau University. Violet was the author of 4 poetry books, named Poet Laureate of Roswell, GA from 1994-2015, received the Humanitarian Award of Roswell in 2000, was the recipient of the Excalibur Award through the American Cancer Society, from 1998-2000, was a member of Roswell Historical Society, A.A.U.W., and was also a member of the Georgia Poetry Society. Vi was an avid collector of antiques of all kinds. Violet is preceded in death by her parents, John Russell and Alice Eva Blanchard; her beloved husband, Vincent W. Patton; brother, Russell Gustave Blanchard and is survived by her daughter, Alice Ann Fulton, of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Robert Keen of Brunswick, GA, Bradley (Elisabeth) Keen of Dallas, GA; great grandchildren, Beau, Molly and Madeline Keen. A gathering of friends will be held at Roswell Funeral Home on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 1:30 pm with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, a charity that Vi and Vincent held very dear to their hearts and donated to yearly.
