John Marcinowski, 94, of Albion, Pa., passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Erie Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. John was born in Lundy's Lane, Pa., on September 25, 1920, son of the late Frank and Bessie (Holey) Marcinowski.
John served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Europe as a Tech 3 in Ordinance. John owned and operated Marcinowski Plumbing, Heating & Roofing for 56 years. John was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Albion. He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 567, and VFW Post 2341, both in Albion. John was a life member of Edinboro/McKean Legion Post 740. He was Past King Lion of Albion Area Lions Club. John enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was recruited by Shriner Vic Ruling to be an entertainer and clown at Shriner's events for children, specializing in balloon art.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Josephine (Fratalia) Marcinowski, in 2004, two brothers, Mike Marcinowski and Frank Marcinowski, and his sister, Ann Furgala.
He is survived by one son, John E. Marcinowski and his wife Jane, of Edinboro, one daughter, Janice DeLoach, of Albion, and one brother, Philip Marcinowski and his wife, Shirley, of Conneautville.
Calling hours will be held at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State Street, Albion, on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. A prayer service and military service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Philip Oriole officiating. Burial will follow in Albion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, at 1128 State Street, Suite 301, Erie, PA 16501, and to the Erie Soldiers' and Sailors' Home, 560 East 3rd Street, Erie, PA 16507.
