Royale Nevers Obituary

ROYALE PAUL NEVERS
SEPTEMBER 30, 1942 - MARCH 8, 2015
Royale Paul Nevers, lifelong resident of Emmett, Idaho, passed away March 8, 2015. Royale was born in Eugene, Oregon on Sept 30, 1942. He was the 2nd born twin, along with his sister Roxanne, to Howard and Roxie Nevers. Royale's mother brought the twins and their two older brothers, LaMarr & Foy to Emmett while their father, who worked for MK, went to Alaska during WWII to build airports.
Royale grew up on a 5 acre, nearly self-sufficient farmstead. He milked cows, rode their horse, Babe, and hunted and fished along the drain ditches and foothills orchards. To earn his first car, Royale worked in the orchards in the summers. He was a born mechanic who, in school, was often found in the Valve Grinders hot rod shop instead of study hall, where he should have been.
Royale enlisted in the Army National Guard in Emmett then went into the Army after high school. He was stationed in Tacoma, WA and then in Germany during the Berlin Buildup.
Royale returned to Emmett in 1964 and settled into a job working for Boise Cascade Corporation. In the spring of 1965 Royale met his wife-to- be, Kathryn (Kathy) Gatfield. They were married Sept 24, 1965 and would have celebrated 50 years together this fall. Their son, Branden Royale was born the summer after they were married, in 1966. He was followed by their daughter, Kristy Lea in 1968. The babies went camping with their parents every summer until they were well grown, learning to ride motorcycles, fish, hunt, view wildlife and enjoy every aspect of Idaho living. Royale retired from Boise Cascade in 2001 after a long and fruitful career in which he was well known as a problem solver and "go-to" guy who could fix anything.
Royale was always a builder and creator. From hot rods to motorcycles to millwright, he was a sawmill mechanic, a welder and a fabricator. Royale built his own shop from salvaged lumber and built an air-boat with his father-in-law, Harvey Gatfield, and 2 brothers-in-law, Boyd and J Gatfield. He rebuilt the family camp trailer and built a 4-wheeler trailer with his cousin and best friend, David Barenberg. The two used this trailer to carry their "wheelers" every Tuesday and Thursday of their retirement years, weather permitting (and it had to be very bad weather to stop them from going). They enjoyed being the first to open a trail in the very early spring. Every "wheelin" trip was an "excellent adventure" as were many of the family's camping and motorcycle trips.
Royale is survived by his wife, Kathryn, son Branden Nevers (Darcie Patten), daughter Kristy Nevers (Steve Nail), sister, Roxanne Fagg, brother, Foy Nevers (Elaine Strelow), lots of nieces and nephews, 4 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 2 great grandsons and 1 adopted grandson. Royale was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother LaMarr Nevers and nephew Marc Nevers.
Royale has ended his excellent adventure but he will be waiting for us to join him in his next one. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring in Emmett, Idaho. All friends and family are invited to share stories, pot-luck, laughs and jokes. Notices of Service will be published in both The Messenger Index and The Idaho Statesman. Arrangements were with Potter Funeral Chapel.

Published by Emmett Messenger Index from Mar. 12 to Apr. 11, 2015.

Kathy, holler if you need anything.
I'm sure Royal is up above raising all sorts of dust on a wheeler.
