U.S. VeteranGerald “Gerry” Bidwell, age 97, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Lincoln Nursing Home in Lincoln, Missouri. He was born in Cortland, New York, where he spent most of his active life, the proud son of John and June Camaga Bidwell.

In 1943, he was joined in marriage to Ruth Cook and unto this marriage, one son, Albert Gerald Bidwell was born. On August 28, 1948, Gerald joined Myrtle Sweet Nemecek in holy matrimony and lived a very loving and dedicated life together until her passing on April 11, 2003. Myrtle “Myrt” brought into their marriage a son, Joseph Martin Nemecek. They were wonderful parents and raised both Joe and Al throughout their school years at their home on the shore of Lake Como, near Cortland, New York. Gerald and Myrt enjoyed many wonderful years in Zephyrhills, Florida, where they were avid bowlers. Following Myrt’s passing, Gerald was welcomed into the home of his son, Al and Lydia Bidwell and spent many happy years in Warsaw.

Gerald was a professional Meat Cutter for many years and also managed Meat Departments for many large grocery stores. He was drafted into the Army Air Corp in 1945 near the end of WWII where he applied his trade. He was also a salesman and manager at Peck’s Furniture Store in Cortland from which he retired. Gerald had an easy manner, pleasing attitude, and was extremely honest all his life.

He is survived by his sons, Al Bidwell, of Warsaw, and Joe Nemecek, of Cortland, NY, four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Following cremation, Gerald and Myrt’s cremains will be interred together by the family, and at his request, there will be no memorial services. Arrangements are entrusted to Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.
