Helena MOFINA Obituary

MOFINA, Helena Sophia Czulo Brazda - Born on May 15, 1931 in Poland and passed away from a valiant battle with cancer on March 16, 2015. Daughter of the late Franciszek and Telka (Suprunowicz) Czulo. Beloved wife of Stan Mofina and the late Ignace Brazda. Sister to Jadwiga and Walter Aksamit, Franciszek and Elizabeth Czulo, Maria and Joseph Bak and aunt to many, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her siblings Stanislaw, Tadeusz, Mietek and surviving sister-in-law Janina Czulo. Sister-in-law to Walter and the late Caroline Mofina, the late Marian and surviving Sandra Mofina and Geneva and Denis Newman. Most amazing mother to Jadwiga Brazda, Irena and David Hopper, Tadeusz and Rita Brazda, Frank and Karen Brazda, Anthony and Maria Brazda and step-mother to Richard Mofina, Joan Laundry, Rozanne and Ronald Willis, Susan and Corry Haryett and Erick and Toni Mofina. Grandmother to Alexander, Jacob, Jillian, Adam, Benjamin, Jack, Katherine, Ignace Joseph, Steven and Susan; step- grandmother to Brittany, Bobby Joe, Melissa, Michelle, Brandon, Breanne, Jennifer, Stephanie, Samara, Leisha and step-great-grandmother to many great-grandchildren. Helena's journey to Canada from Poland started when her family was displaced to a Russian work camp. Her role as the family nurturer began during the family's journey from there to North Rhodesia and then Scotland, where she met and married Ignace. Their eldest daughter was born in Scotland before immigrating to Canada. From Toronto to Brighton, and as her family grew, Helena's home was always open to friends, family and tag-a-longs for a treat, a drink or a meal. She taught her children to be responsible, kind and to always do their best. Helena was a deeply spiritual woman and a fierce defender of her faith and her children. She would care for anyone. Never afraid of hard work, she worked for the Canadian Red Cross as a PSW after she was widowed. She met and married her second husband, Stan and settled into the Frankford community. Together they travelled. Helena continued her habit of feeding all and taught many how to make favourite treats. Her family, extended family, friends both old and new were everything to her. Remember her and in her memory, always be prepared to set an extra plate at your table. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Weaver Family Funeral Home - West Chapel, 170 Dundas Street West, Trenton, Ontario. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 300 Riverside Parkway, Frankford, Ontario, at 11 a.m. Father Charles Enyinnia officiating. Spring interment to take place at Codrington Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be much appreciated.
