Karen Nelson Obituary

Karen B. Nelson, 44, of state Route 239, Shickshinny, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

Born in Kingston on Jan. 14, 1971, she is the daughter of Donald and Beth Hontz Nelson.

Karen graduated from Muhlenburg Christian Academy in 1989, and worked as a front end service clerk at Price Chopper in Edwardsville.

Karen was a longtime member of Town Hill United Methodist Church in Shickshinny.

She enjoyed organizing her apartment, word puzzles and computer games. She also enjoyed shopping, eating out and playing Wheel of Fortune with her Aunt Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Loxley and Margaret Hontz; and her paternal grandparents, Russell Nelson and Hilda Sheerer.

Surviving relatives include her sister, Brenda Nitsch and husband, Kevin, Rochester, N.Y.; brother, Donnie and wife, Lisa, Shickshinny; nephews, Michael, Daniel, Jeffrey, David and Samuel; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Karen will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, with the Rev. Bethany Wood, her pastor, officiating. Private interment will follow in Scott Cemetery, Huntington Township. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Karen's name to the American Brain Tumor Association. Donations can be sent to David Nitsch, c/o Tigers K Cancer Foundation, 142 Hampton Way, Penfield, NY 14526.

Arrangements are by Charles L. Cease Funeral Home, 634 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny.

karen was a doll to everyone she met. i worked with her a few years i remember how she loved going shopping with her mom she would say im going to shop till i drop. i loved karen such a sweet person . she will be deeply missed by many. rest easy karen

I was deeply saddened to see Karen's smiling face in today's obituaries. While I never knew her name I certainly recognized her smile. Without a doubt her warm greetings and sunny smile will be missed by many of us who looked forward to seeing her at Price Chopper.
