Farrel Lawrence E. "Larry" Farrel, age 74, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully and fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church Wednesday, April 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving wife Barb of 52 years; brothers, Tom and Ed and children. Born in 1940 in Potosi, Missouri, he later moved to St. Louis, MO, where he attended St. Francis DeSales Catholic High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country as a Military Police Officer in South Korea and Iwo Jima. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to St. Louis to marry Barbara Boedeker, the love of his life. Larry then joined United Parcel Service in 1961, and eventually served the company in many top executive leadership roles during his 34-year career. He was the definition of a patriot and self-made man, who garnered great respect and gained great life-long friendships wherever UPS sent him and his family. Preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Marie Farrel, Larry was extremely passionate about many things, but the most important were his wife, Barb; his four children, Shelley (Jack) Kreber, Tim Farrel (Jamie Oetter Evans), Sheri (Tom) Kelly and Kate Farrel; the greatest joy of his life his 11 grandchildren, Carly, Max, Cassidy, Luke, Collin, Braeden, Evelyn, Maddie, Nate, Rose and Noah. UPS or "Big Brown" as he liked to call the company, and his good friends in St. Louis, Atlanta, Sarasota and throughout the entire country. Larry was generous beyond measure in supporting many charitable causes, including those of his Catholic faith, wounded veterans and ill and disabled children. His legacy of love and generosity will live on through his family and friends; he will be greatly missed. Calling hours for Larry will be on WEDNESDAY, April 8, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street (Powell Rd./St. Rt. 750/1/4 mile east of Sawmill Pkwy.), Powell, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated THURSDAY, April 9, 2015 at 10 a.m., at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 South Liberty Street in Powell, Ohio. The Rev. James Black, Celebrant. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Barbara
How sorry and shocked we were to hear this news. Larry was a great guy--everyone on the Bee Ridge Committee respected and liked him. He was my " kind of guy" as well--down to earth, easy to talk with, and had a great sense of humor.
He is and will be in my prayers and thoughts.
Sincerely
Joe O'Hara
