Genevieve V. Skemp, 96, of Scottdale, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Gene was born Nov. 18, 1918, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late Clark and Bertha (Hall) Vance. She was married to John Dick Skemp, who passed away July 27, 1968. Gene was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A graduate of Scottdale High School Class of 1936, she was employed as a receptionist for many years with William Owens Dentistry in Scottdale. Gene was a faithful member of Calvin United Presbyterian Church in Scottdale and a former member of Scottdale Woman's Garden Club. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Gene will be sadly missed by her devoted family her three children, Carole Stoner and her husband, Dennis, of Scottdale, Darleene Szolek and her husband, Daniel, of Mt. Pleasant, and John Dick Skemp Jr., of Scottdale; her seven grandchildren, Holly Stoner Barclay and her husband, Brent, of Cranberry Township, Wendy Stoner Pisula and her husband, Greg, of Scottdale, Cindy Stoner Sager and her husband, Tim, of Scottdale, John Daniel Szolek and his wife, Jennifer, of Poland, Ohio, Jeffrey Scott Szolek and his wife, Stephanie, of Greensburg, Joshua Skemp and his wife, Tara, of Denver, Colo., and Jared Skemp and his wife, Janelle, of Waterford; her 12 great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Jakob, Max, Sam, Shelby, Emily, Claire, Zackery, Kenzie, Kelly, Kaden and Coragan; and her niece. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Szolek (June 9, 2010); and her sister, Florence Shannon Richey (1999). At the request of the decedent, there will be no public viewing. Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Mulberry and Chestnut streets, Scottdale, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, with Pastor Leonard Morgan officiating. Final resting place will be in Scottdale Cemetery. Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B.
