Arrigo, John
John Arrigo of Tuckahoe died on April 16, 2015 at the age of 88. He was born in New York City on September 10, 1926 to Frank and Santa (nee Tripoli) Arrigo. During WWII, he served in the Navy on board the USS Guam CB2 battle cruiser. His ship covered the Philippine Liberation, the invasion of Okinawa and the Occupation of Korea.
John was a life member of Lt. Col. Sam DiRienzo VFW and served as Commander for 6 years. Other memberships include the Leroy Gregory Post 979, American Legion, Westchester County PBA and the New York Police & Fire Retiree Association. As a member of the Westchester County Police Revolver Association, he was awarded many trophies. Throughout his life, John was active in civic and Veterans' Affairs in Tuckahoe and Eastchester, and was the designer and coordinator of the Veterans Monument in Parkway Oval.
He married Concetta Morra at Assumption Church on October 3, 1948. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Frank J. and his wife Elaine of Hawthorne, and John J. and his wife Renee of Bronxville. He is also survived by two grandsons, Frank Benjamin and Thomas John.
John is predeceased by his brother Dominick.
The family will receive friends at the Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Eastchester on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, 2015 10:30 am at Assumption Church, Tuckahoe. Interment to follow at Holy Mount Cemetery. Thank you Mr. Arrigo for being a WWII veteran, a true community activist to veterans and local children and wonderful friend to my family and Dad, Jimmy Molloy. I have some wonderful memories of post 979 and you were always a joy to be around. Keep smiling.
