Prunty, Patton Carney
Our beloved son, Patton Carney Prunty, 38, passed on April 15, 2015, from cancer with his loving wife Ari at his side. He was too young and enjoyed life too much (born September 13, 1976) for this to happen. He is survived by his wife, Arianna Halper Prunty, who is his love, friend, and care-giver who supported him totally through this devastating disease that took Patton from us. Patton is also survived by his unborn son, Asher Carney Prunty, due in June, and his loving 9-year old son, James Patton Prunty (mother, Renee Anderson Kuehl). They will all miss him dearly and forever. Hearts are truly broken. Arianna will need the time from now until June to heal and prepare for their baby's arrival.
Patton and Ari were married in October, 2014. One month later in November, Patton was given a terminal prognosis. The doctors at Mayo were wonderful but the cancer had progressed too far as it was determined to be Stage 4 esophageal cancer. The disease took Patton physically but not mentally; psychology; or spiritually. Patton was courageous in his struggle and won enough battles and time to feel Asher's movements in his mother's womb and to share precious time with his sweet James. Our loving family and friends and the Rochester community supported Patton and Ari with a benefit on Jan. 18, 2015. It truly was an outpouring of love and support.
For the past 12 years Patton resided in Rochester, Minn. Despite living in Viking territory he remained an ardent Packer fan. Patton embraced life, lived it passionately and remained curious and open to its adventure. Snowboarding, Boundary Water trips (even took his dad), competitive hockey, off road biking, half triathlons and more became part of who he was. He loved the outdoors and sharing it with Ari made it even more enjoyable. He and Ari were soul mates in life and adventure. Patton was a wonderful father, encouraging his son to enjoy and appreciate the outdoors. James learned snowboarding/skiing at an early age. Patton and Ari took the trip of their life in June, 2014 and had hoped for many more. Patton maintained in contact with his childhood, high school and college friends thru social media and regularly scheduled get-togethers in Green Bay and an occasional ski trip and/or Boundary Water outing.
Patton graduated from Resurrection Catholic School, Notre Dame High School (becoming the distinguished alumni of year in 2015), University of Minnesota (2000) and William Mitchell Law School (JD in 2004). Patton practiced law at the VerDerHeyden Law office for the last 4 years; before that he clerked for various judges in Minnesota. Patton enjoyed and was proud of his career choice, practicing law. He was active in his church of which he attended with his son; was coach for various youth athletic teams, and committed to his community including volunteering on the city parks commission.
Patton is survived by his parents, Pat and Edward; loving brother, Cullen (Darien, Lainey and Caleb); in-laws, David Halper and Barbara Halper; grandmother, Margaret Suehring; aunts and uncles, Suehring - Pam Spence, Gayle (Gayla Hudson), and Greg (Erica); Prunty - Ann (Bert) Clough, Percy (Pat) Flanagan, and Lois (Tom) Egan. He is also survived by Ari's family and many cousins of the Suehring and Prunty families. We will all miss him, especially his engaging laughter and his genuine good will and spirit.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Herbert Suehring and Ed and Gladys Prunty; and his dad's siblings, Dan, Sib, Pat, Mike, Mary and Kay. Have fun with them in heaven!
Funeral service will be at Mount Olive Church Rochester, Minn., Saturday, April 25, 2 p.m. A Mass, celebrating Patton's life with celebrant, Father Brian Prunty, will be held at Old St. Joes, St. Norbert, De Pere on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. We will be forever appreciative of our family and friends and those who supported Patton and Ari.
Patton, Mom and Dad will miss the comfort of your love and presence but we remain faithful that the future will reward us with an eternal reunion.
As per Patton's request he will be cremated and his ashes will be part of a new planting at his favorite bike trail - Root River Trail. Services of Macken Funeral Home, Rochester, Minn., assisted Ari with all arrangements.

To Pat & Family: I am so, so sorry for your loss. My family and I are thinking of you in this heartbreaking time. Pat, I used to love chatting and laughing with you about Patton and his adventures. He always seemed like someone who I would have loved to have been friends with. I'm so sorry I never met him. Take care of each other.
