Landrum, Roy Glenn

Judge Roy Glenn Landrum, 91, of Lakewood Ranch and West Jefferson, Alabama, died on April 25, 2015, surrounded by his wife and daughters at his home in Florida.
During the Second World War, Roy served in the Naval Air Corps. Afterwards, he earned a B.S. in physics from the University of Alabama, worked as an engineer, and owned the Landrum Lumber Company in Burnwell, Alabama. In 1964, he graduated from the Birmingham School of Law and opened the law firm of Jones and Landrum with R.B. Jones. In the early 1970s, Roy was appointed municipal judge of Adamsville, Alabama by Mayor Leland Adams. Before Roy retired from the bench in 2004, the Adamsville Municipal Building was renamed in his honor.
Roy is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Alice (Kennedy); daughters, MaryAnn Grantham (Dan) and Melissa (Mike Glasgow); grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, and Clare Grantham; and nephew, Tom Brumbeloe (Linda; children, Thomas and Catherine).
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave, Sarasota. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Our Lady of the Angels, 12905 E State Road 70, Lakewood Ranch. Burial will be in Palms Memorial Park, Sarasota, FL. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 6310 Capital Drive #100, Lakewood Ranch, Florida 34202 (www.tidewell.org).

So glad to have received the reminder email from legacy ... I must have read your dad's full obituary in 2015, but I don't remember reading that he was first a physicist! You know that my dad was a physicist, too, Melissa, right? I get happy when I see the word 'physicist,' because every single person I've ever known, who likes physics, every one of them, without exception, has been a uniquely wonderful, unusual, quirky, especially interesting, character, living a uniquely interesting life. Your dad certainly appears to fit this description ... physics, engineering, law, and a judgeship ... what a wonderful and unpredictable combination. I sure wish I could have met him, what an interesting man, your dad. Lucky you for having him as a father, and all my condolences (and GB's too of course) for your loss.
