Christine W. Stehower, age 92 of Grand Haven, passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at RestHaven Care and Rehabilitation Center, Holland.
Christine was born on November 10, 1922 to Harm and Jantiena (Hoogewind) Daling in Talmadge Township, MI. The daughter of Dutch immigrants, Mrs. Stehower grew up on the family's dairy farm and helped her mother work the family's farm market garden. She moved to Ann Arbor during World War II and worked at the Willow Run munitions plant where she mounted machine guns on B52 bombers. On August 4, 1945 she married Donald J. Stehower who preceded her in death on September 27, 2011. They made their home in Hamilton where she became very active in the community, founding the area's first 4-H club, serving on a variety of church committees for Haven Reformed Church, campaigning for a variety of presidential candidates and serving on the Allegan County board of social services. They retired to Glenn where she was an active member of Glenn United Methodist Church. In later years they moved to Grand Haven, where she attended First Reformed Church. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many sporting events and could always be counted on to bring her camera to capture fuzzy pictures of their accomplishments.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kay (Tim) Domke, Donna Stehower, Phyllis (Mike) McCrossin and Norma (Scott) Marine; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. A celebration of Mrs. Stehower's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Rev. John Kenny officiating. Interment will be in Grand Haven Lakeshore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Mrs. Stehower's favorite charity, Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine, Inc. PMB 200, 430 E. 8th Street, Holland, MI 49423. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Stehower girls and know you are in our prayers. We are still in our winter home in Texas so we won't be able to attend.
