William Gayle Barefoot WEDDINGTON - William Gayle Barefoot, of Weddington, NC, died on April 25, 2015, at Union County Hospice. He was 76. Mr. Barefoot attended UNC-Chapel Hill, joined the Armed Services and later received his degree from Belmont Abbey College. Mr. Barefoot was born in Charlotte in 1938 and graduated from Harding High School in 1956. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and served in the post war Korean conflict. He was a candidate for the Army Olympics Rifle Team. He had a career in sales with Ford Motor Company, Jonathan Logan Inc. clothing representative and CCIM with Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mickey G. Key who resides in Weddington, one son, one daughter and six grandchildren, his brothers Richard (Ann) Barefoot of Raleigh, Paul Barefoot of Killingworth, CT, and sister, Robin (Brian) Hussey of Charlotte. A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington/ Matthews Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC, on Saturday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m. Please contact the funeral home for directions due to the closed bridge on Forest Lawn Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Humane Society at www.humanesociety.org. Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel is handling the arrangements. My heart-felt condolences go out to the Barefoot family. Bill and I were friends in high school and I remember him fondly. I know how hard this time is for the family, and I pray that you can take comfort in the fact that we'll see each other again in the "sweet bye and bye".
