Anthony G. Pescatore
AGE: 92 • Long Branch
Anthony G. Pescatore, "Tony", 92, of Long Branch, formerly of Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015, peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family. Tony was born and raised in Hoboken, at 419 Grand St. He met his wife Rita Olandesi there, and when courting, they spent lots of time in NY, enjoying Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey and the big bands of the era, as well as attending numerous Yankee and NY Ranger games. Tony and Rita recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on May 5th.
Tony was a renowned machinist in the textile industry and eventually opened up his own company, Lady Knits. He developed and patented the "Peds" sock. Once retired from that industry, he moved to Florida, where he remained for 35 years, working for his dear friend, the late Joseph "Skip" Agresta. Tony was a fantastic landscaper, who grew the most amazing citrus orchard when living in Boca Raton. The grandchildren picked grapefruit, oranges and lemons, and everyone visiting woke up daily to fresh squeezed juice in the morning. Some of the family's most treasured memories were spending time in Florida with "Gramma and Grampa", and days at the Boca Beach Club - beach by day, seafood buffet by night.
He was known for his unique sense of humor, wit and antics. He even went so far as to climb palm trees, and plant coconuts for the grandkids to find and bring back to school for Show and Tell. Besides his family, Tony's passion was most definitely sports. Even though he and his wife Rita lived in Florida for many years, he remained an avid NY Yankee and Giants fan. Up until the very end, if you needed any sports stats, he was your "go to guy".
Tony was predeceased by his son, Patrick, in 2003; daughter-in-law, Debra in February 2015; his parents, Virginia and Frank; his sisters, Carmella, Philomena, and Suzie; and his mother-in-law, Rose Olandesi. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rita; his son, Frank and his wife, Janice; 5 grandchildren, Joanna, Christian, Dustin, Evan and Cara; his brother, Frank and wife Carol, and extended family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst. Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, May 22 at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, West End, Long Branch. For condolences, please visit www.fiorefuneralhomes.com.
