Robert Lesley Wink
Funeral services for Robert Lesley Wink of Semmes, Alabama will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Paschal's Catholic Church with Father Frank Coens officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Robert Lesley Wink died May 20, 2015 at his home in Semmes, Alabama. He was born at home March 18, 1937 to John and Ethel Wink, Cypress Community, West Monroe, Louisiana.
He attended Cypress Elementary School and Ouachita High School. Bob joined the United States Army January 25, 1957. Commended for outstanding performances as Supply Sargent, was transferred to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, South Dakota, and assigned to the 2nd missile Battalion (Nike-Hercules) 67th Artillery. Bob was a part of the first Missile Defense system during the cold war period helping to install secret missile silos across the country. Honorably discharged January 1963.
This Southern boy married "the farmer's daughter" from Kansas, Mary Alice Schrandt July 8, 1961, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Delphos, KS. Five children blessed their marriage. Most of their married life was centered in Jackson, MS as members of St. Therese Catholic Church. Where Bob also enjoyed his years as a scout leader with his sons. Other hobbies included family gatherings in Louisiana, fishing, deer camp and coin collecting.
After 21 years as Parts and Service Manager at Paul Moak Pontiac in Jackson, MS, new jobs lead him to Murfreesboro, TN followed by Memphis, retiring to Jackson in 1993 due to health problems from diabetes. As early onset Dementia-Alzheimer's grew more serious, the children moved them to Alabama to be more available for their help. After a journey with this disease he died a peaceful death.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Alice; Children; Melissa (Gaines) Baker, Courtland, MS, John (Lisa) Wink, Washington Township, MI, Mark Wink, Grand Bay, AL, Matthew (Julie) Wink, Mobile, AL, James (Frankie) Wink, Mobile, AL. Grandchildren; Sarah Ashton and Brennan Baker, Jack, Spencer and Jeremy Wink, Justin and Brooke Wink, Anna and Isabella Wink, Stephanie and Dylan Wink.
Also surviving are brothers: Dennis (Kathryn) Wink, Stanley (Aucil Lee) Wink, Edgar (Nisha) Wink, Phillip Wink, one sister, Sarah (Bill) Kelly, all from West Monroe, LA. Brother-in-laws: Bill (Betty) Schrandt, Lansing, KS, Robert (Trudy) Schrandt, Walpole, MA, Kris (JB) Nelson, Delphos, KS. Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, one brother-in-law, Steve Schrandt and one sister-in-law, Pam Wink, nephew, A.J. Wink.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 25, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe and starting at 7:00pm Celebration Service in Kilpatrick Chapel.
