Americo "Mex" Bontempo, 87, passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2015 at the Emory L Bennett Veterans Nursing Home in Daytona Beach. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Woolley) Bontempo who passed away on April 12, 2010. Americo was born in Pen Argyl, PA on December 15, 1927 to the late John and Anna (Marcon) Bontempo. He grew up in Pen Argyl and volunteered to his services to the United States Navy in 1944 as "SeaBee". When Mex came home he used the tools he learned in the Navy and became a Cement Mason, belonging to the Allentown Union (#233) and well as the one in Philadelphia (#592). He married the love of his life, Evelyn, on October 25, 1952 and built their home in Wind Gap, PA. It was in this home that they would raise his two sons, Mark and Michael. During these years between raising children and a devout Catholic, being a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, before moving to Florida, Mex was also a lifetime member of the Wind Gap Fire Co, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW in Bangor, PA, the American Legion in Wind Gap, and was a past President of the Blue Valley Major Bowling Team. Mex loved to go camping with his wife and family, frequently taking his grandchildren to Knoebel's Grove and Hickory Run. Mex and Evelyn lived in the same house that he had built until they moved to Florida in 2003 to be closer to their son and granddaughters, where they remained until the time of their passing. Not only was Mex the proud father of two sons; Michael (Karen) Bontempo of Port Orange, FL and Mark (Missy) Bontempo of Rosanky, TX; he was the proud Grandfather of four: Nikole (John David) Murray of Port Orange, FL; Cheyanne (JD) Bontempo of Ormond Beach, FL; Anthony Bontempo of Rosansky, TX; and Tighe Bontempo of Houston, TX. Mex was also the proud Great Grandfather of two: Vance and Mason Murray of Port Orange, FL. Mex was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn, who we will also be remembering at this time. He was also preceded by a sister, Stella Marshall, and his brother, Nelo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 300 W. Babbitt Avenue, Pen Argyl. There will be viewing hours, Tuesday beginning at 6 PM until 7:30 PM at the Guerro & Ruggiero Funeral Home, www.ruggierofuneralhome.com, 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl, and Wednesday beginning at 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM at the church. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Pen Argyl.

Mark and Micheal, I don't know if you remember me, I was Lynnette Schreck. We became friends when we live across the street from you in a small trailer. I used to go to lake walenpaulpack with you and your family. I miss them days. I remember your parents well. I am so sorry for your loss!

You probably do not remember me but I used to live across the street from you on Constitution Ave and babysat for you boys many times. You swam in the pool and I remember a tiny little fuzzy kitten...I had the utmost respect for your parents. They were always happy and would do anything for anyone. They lived a good long life and adored their sons. I am sure your children have also inherited their goodness. I am so sorry for your loss.
