Vivian Pollock Obituary

Vivian K Pollock

Ankeny, Iowa

Vivian K. Pollock, 85, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2014 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Ankeny United Church of Christ 602 SE Delaware Ave., with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Iowa River Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Vivian Katherine Youker was born August 30, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Elroy and Ruby (Rank) Youker. She grew up and received her education in Marshalltown graduating with the class of 1947. Following graduation, Vivian met Norman Pollock when he visited from Iowa State with her brother. Vivian accepted a date offer from Norman and they have been together ever since.

On June 25, 1949, Vivian was united in marriage to Norman D. Pollock. The couple made a home in both Waterloo and Ankeny while being blessed with three children, Marcia, Mark and Matt. Vivian became a homemaker and raised her children with Norm, taking many summer vacations and always making her family a priority.

Vivian was an avid Bridge player and also became an instructor. She was an accomplished painter and enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling, and was also known to rearrange furniture in her home daily always searching for the perfect arrangement. Vivian loved telling and listening to good stories and made her home filled with people, laughter, and pets. Most of all, Vivian treasured spending time with Norm, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who all held a special place in her heart.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Norman of Ankeny; children, Marcia (Stephen) Baker of Crystal Lake, IL, Mark (Diane) Pollock of Avon, OH, and Matt (Vicki) Pollock of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Heather Bechtel, Allison Baker, Julie Baker, Christopher (Beth) Pollock, Seth (Jamie Lynn) Pollock, and Sierra (Joshua) Swanson; 11 great-grandchildren, and one brother, David Youker of Dixon, IL. She is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Dale Youker, Robert Youker, and Joyce Doty.

Sorry for your lost...I remember the summer your mom taught Sandi and me how to sew a wrap around skirt to wear when school started. She could answer all the questions on the TV game show. Also remember Norm and Mark making a soap box car in the garage and we all went over on Ansborough Ave to watch Mark race...it was a fun day.

So sorry for your loss. So many memories of growing up next door to all of you in Waterloo. Brownie group in your kitchen and playing the piano in the basement. Makes me smile at the memories. Hugs and prayers for all of you.

I have many special memories of Vivian and the hours that I spent in my teen years at the Pollock household. She had such a great attitude about life and a deep faith in God. She helped me get through those tough years with her wit and encouragement. My heart is so sad for your loss; but, the good news is we will see her again in heaven! We will be praying for you in the coming days as you grieve. I am so sorry we missed the funeral. I just got the message today. Love to you all .. Jan Karsak
