Robert Jordan Obituary

Robert A. Jordan, 89
VENTURA, Calif. - Robert A. Jordan, 89, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at his home in Ventura, Calif. Bob, as he was known to friends and family, was born in 1926 in Portland to Harold Jordan and Frances Weaver Jordan and was a descendent of the Rev. Robert Jordan, 17th century founder of Cape Elizabeth. He was educated in Portland schools and attended Phillips Academy (Andover) for his senior year of secondary school. Although he was admitted to Yale, he joined the military and served in the Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Upon his discharge from the Army, he continued his education at Yale, Class of 1950, and completed his BA as a triple major one semester early. He later served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, and in the U.S Naval Reserve during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He married Hilda Jordan (Cross) in 1947, and raised three children, Stephen, James, and Jane in the Portland area. Bob was a Certified Public Accountant with the Portland firm Jordan and Jordan, which was founded by his father and his uncle Chester Jordan. He was a partner for many years at Jordan and Jordan and later Arthur Young, now known as Ernst & Young (which acquired Jordan and Jordan). Bob had a distinguished career in consulting work in the health care and hospital administration fields in various offices in Portland, Boston, Chicago, Phoenix, Santa Barbara and Ventura. In addition to his professional positions, Bob was an active volunteer who lent his professional skills to a number of non-profit organizations and boards.
In his younger days, Bob was an active skier and golfer, and was a longtime member of the Portland Country Club.
He remarried in 1975 to Nancy R. Jordan. Bob and Nancy were married until her death in 2012. Bob and Nancy were active members of each community they called home. They owned many dogs throughout the years, and Bob had a particular fondness for his German Shepherds. He and Nancy were religious Scrabble players, avid gardeners, and loving companions.
Bob remained a voracious reader into his final years, and looked forward to his weekly trip to the bookstore. In recent years, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, neighbors, dogs, reading his newspapers cover to cover, spending time at Surfer's Point in Ventura, cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and practicing his Catholic faith. Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, keen intellect, kind and generous spirit, and impeccable work ethic (among other things).
He was predeceased by his parents; his son, James Jordan (Jay); and his second wife, Nancy Jordan. Bob is survived by his first wife, Hilda Jordan of Portland, sister, Katherine Libby of Harwich, Mass.; son, Stephen Jordan (Marcia) of Bangor, daughter, Jane Bull (Nick) of Portland and Alexandria, Va., stepdaughters, Claudia Owens of Scottsdale and Lydia Milars of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, Whitney Cromie (Adam) of Alexandria and Gregory Jordan of Bangor; and great-grandson, Marshall Cromie of Alexandria, Va.
At his request, there will be no service, nor hours of visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Condolences may be sent to TedMayrFuneralHome.com.

If desired, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America www.alzfdn.org or the Humane Society of Ventura County http://www.hsvc.org in his memory.

Bob presences on Chamberlain will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

June 3, 2015

We had the privilege of living very near to Bob and Nancy here on Chamberlain Street. I'll always remember him faithfully walking his dogs several times a day. He took such good care of them. He was devoted to Nancy. He was a delight to know and an encouragement to see how one can age so gracefully. Bob, we will miss you so much!
