James J. "Jim" Ferragine

James J. "Jim" Ferragine, 91, of 6543 Ridgway-Johnsonburg Rd., Johnsonburg, died Friday morning, May 29, 2015 at Pinecrest Manor in St. Marys following a brief illness.

He was born July 8, 1923 in Johnsonburg, son of the late Domonic and Mary Magro Ferragine.

He married Lucy Ann Marzella on Feb. 1, 1946 in St. Leo Magnus Church, Ridgway, and she survives.

He resided in Johnsonburg all his life and was a 1942 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and enjoyed bricklaying, carpentry work and gardening.

He was a WWII Navy veteran serving at sea aboard the USS Torrance AK76 and the blimp Heron as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Stars, the American Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Star.
He was employed by New York and Pennsylvania Co. - Penntech Papers, Inc. retiring in 1982.

In addition to his wife at home, he is survived by one daughter, Donna "Peachy," Mrs. Biagio Vavala of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; one son, James "Jim" Ferragine and his wife Mary of Ridgway; four grandchildren, Carla, Mrs. Joseph Corona, Andrea, Mrs. Thomas DeDona, Andrew J. Ferragine and his wife Jolene and Brian Karney; four great-grandchildren, Joseph and Ava DeDona, and Aidan and Isabella Ferragine; two brothers, Elmer Ferragine and his wife Renelda of Johnsonburg, and Rudolph Ferragine and his wife Joan of Johnsonburg; one sister, Rose Franco of Johnsonburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Arthur Ferragine; and two sisters, Angeline Matzko and Helen DeJulio.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James J. "Jim" Ferragine will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church on Tuesday, June 2 at 10 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. David J. Wilson, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.

Friends will be received at the Anthony F. Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut St., Johnsonburg, on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by the Johnsonburg Servicemen's Detail. Detail members are asked to assemble at the funeral home Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m.
