Doris Mae Butler Ponson, a retired beautician, peacefully entered into eternal rest at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the age of 83. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA. Beloved wife of Arthur Joseph Ponson, Sr. Devoted mother of Deanna (Rudy) Smith, Patricia Hockins, Harrietta P. Tipado, Arthur (Roslyn) Ponson, Jr. and Dr. Tommy Ponson. Loving grandmother of Suzette Smith, Joseph (Rose) Tipado, Courtney Ponson (Jomarque) Renthrope, Cherie Ashley, Jahmal Tipado, Christopher Bernard, Kacie Hockins and Arthur Ponson, III. Daughter of the late Mervin and Harriet Butler. Sister of Irvin (Altar) Butler and Joycelyn Owens. Godmother of Carl Roberson. Sister-in-law of Sandra Ponson; also survived by 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of New Zion Baptist Church, St. Paul Baptist Church, Shiloh Baptist Church, Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church, St. Mary Baptist Church of Abbeville, LA and all neighboring churches; employees of The City of Gretna, Gretna Police Dept., Rouses Supermarket, Nicholls State University, West Jefferson Medical Center, U. S. Postal Service, and Entergy; members of Best Bank Track Club, Westside Oldtimers, Zulu Social Aide and Pleasure Club and Patrons of Ponson Place are invited to attend a viewing at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 230 MONORE ST. GRETNA, LA on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 5pm- 7pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at New Zion Baptist Church, 2319 Third St., New Orleans, LA at 11:00a.m. Pastor C. S. Gordon, Jr., officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00a.m. until service time at the above named church. Interment: Christian Social Cemetery-Gretna, LA.
