Dec. 31, 1927 Jun.28, 2015 Jerry L. Cope, 87, of Huffman went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on June 28, 2015. He was born on December 31, 1927 in Carnegie, PA and was the oldest of 6 children born to his parents, Harris and Thelma Cope. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 during World War II and served in the South Pacific. He enjoyed a work career that spanned seven decades. He especially valued working for Mr. R.C. Hassinger of Transall Inc. and Mr. Leonard Love of J&L Fabricators. Most of all, he was a loving husband and family man. He was married to the love of his life Sarah Elizabeth ("Betty Lou") Barnett Cope for over 65 years before she died in April, 2013. He had no fear of death because of his deep Christian faith and his desire to be in heaven with his sweet Betty Lou. He is survived by his children Bill Cope (Sally), Linda Banks (Robert) and Judy Sharpton (Scott) all from the Birmingham area. Survivors also include 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and two sisters. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the many medical personnel and caregivers who were so unselfish in providing excellent and loving care. The family suggests that memorial gifts be given to Huffman Baptist Church where he was a member for over 55 years and where he especially enjoyed the teaching and fellowship in Auston Young's senior adult Sunday School class. Visitation will be on Friday July 3 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Johns Ridout in Trussville. Reverend Larry Smith will officiate at graveside services to be held at Forest Hills Cemetery at 2:00 PM. John 14: 1-6.
