BELFAST - Robert A. Hughes II was born January 10, 1948. After a long battle with cancer he went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2015. Robert was the son of Robert A. Hughes I and Virginia Burgin Hughes.
Robert graduated from Belfast Area High School in 1966. He then served his country by joining the Marine Corps. Robert was a wounded Vietnam Veteran. Many thanks and appreciation for his part keeping our country free.
Robert enjoyed going on moose, deer and bear hunts with his son Bob, friends and other family. He loved fishing adventures, holidays with his family, camping, watching his grandchildren play sports and cookouts in his backyard. In addition, he spent countless hours in his flower gardens and hopping in his truck with his wife, "Alice", simply to enjoy the beauty of Maine.
Robert was predeceased by his father Robert and mother Virginia, baby sister Adeline and step-mother, Rose Kimble Hughes. He is survived by Marion Ward Hughes, his wife of 47 years; children: Melissa Wallace and partner Bill of Belfast, Melanie Hughes and husband Eric Miller of Searsport, and Robert Hughes III and wife Erica of Waldo; sisters Margaret Bonney of Belmont and Iris Hooper and husband Dennis of Belfast. Robert also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jerica, Lakin, Helene and Alia Wallace, Kali and Dagan Berenyi and Jason, Nicole and Grace Hughes; one great-grandchild, Ezyce (Papa's buddy); nine nieces and nephews: Lisa Sambrook, Jennifer Selendy, Benjamin Hooper, Sherry, Michelle, Harry, Amy, Lisa and Rusty Ward; and many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service will be held on July 3, 2015 at the V.F.W. in Belfast at 1:00 p.m. with a graveside service at Grove Cemetery in Belfast at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home in Belfast; memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.ripostafh.com
