Jacqueline "Jackie" Jones, 85
FREEPORT - Jacqueline G. Jones, 85, of Freeport, passed away on June 29, 2015, at her daughter's home in Durham, surrounded by her loving children. Jackie was born in Palatka, Fla., on Nov. 20, 1929, to Vaughn M. and Marguerite (Frost) Rice. Her parents owned the Grant's Cabins in Farmingdale, for many years, where she lived and worked until her marriage to Allan P. Jones in 1950. They moved to Freeport and raised their family.
Jackie worked various jobs in Freeport. She was a member of the D.A.R. of the Samuel Grant Chapter, where her grandmother, Nora Grant Rice, was the founder in 1897. She was also a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Casco Chapter #160, of Freeport. She was also a Lioness with the Freeport Lions Club. Jackie attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brunswick and later joined the Durham Congregational Church.
She enjoyed the holidays, family gatherings, embroidery, reading, cooking, sewing and playing "Skip Bo." Later in life, she loved sitting and watching the birds and squirrels, and tending to her cat "Duke," who she loved dearly. Her children will be forever grateful to her for instilling her spirit of giving and caring of others. We will miss her great sense of humor, her laughter and her ability to find joy in all circumstances.
She is survived by her five children: Daisy Fraser and husband Stanley of Brunswick, Vaughan M. Jones of Durham, Sandra M. Spier of Durham, Lloyd B. Jones and wife Honora of Freeport, Gail Jones of Durham, "Duke" of Durham; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Allan P. Jones; and her son-in-law Charles M. Spier.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, with a reception following also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Please visit

Condolences to all the family. I got to know Jackie through my Mom who met her on her walks in their neighborhood. When my Mom was diagnosed with Cancer, Jackie visited with her, and stayed with her one afternoon to help me out. I will never forget her kindness to my Mom and to Me. My prayers are with you all.
