Renelle and Ben,
I'm sure you know this already, but your Mom was a wonderful person. She was calm, selfless and compassionate. I'll always remember the times she invited us to fun outings with your family and all the times she helped us when we needed it most.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
Love,
Kelly, Martin and Natalie

I'm sorry we couldn't attend her wake/funeral. We were in town for a few days, but left the previous Wednesday. I have so many fond memories of your Mama, especially when she introduced me to kiwi fruits (I was 10 yrs old) and thought it was the best thing I had ever tasted; dates that were filled with peanut butter; and all the great food she made for the Thanksgiving spread. I learned so much about our families in Ghana from those parties, and looked forward to being in the Velez house around the Holidays, because it was always so festive. Oddly enough, 30 years ago, she took care of me when I had chicken pox in my senior year of HS. My own mom had a hard time just looking at the fresh breakout all over my back, but your Mama was undaunted and applied calamine directly herself. Now, I'm enduring pox part 2 (shingles) and remembering how she took care of me towards midnight when she finished her long day at Creedmoor. She was always there for us whenever we were sick or suffering, even recently.
If it weren't for Ninang convincing my Dad to go for dialysis, he'd be in worse shape today.I miss your Mama, but know she's with your Papa and Patrick again. I hope you, EJ and Ben and the rest of the family get through the tough time of adjusting, and on towards healing. Love you all! Becky, Chi and kids.

I will remember Helen's generosity, hospitality, and unconditional love. Her appreciation of music will not be forgotten. It was always my pleasure performing piano for her. I'm sorry she is leaving behind her greatest blessing and treasure; her Renelle. I am a better man because of this beautiful family. RIP. Love Sam
