EDNA SMITH Obituary

SMITH, EDNA Edna Marie Smith, January 2, 1919 - July 7, 2015. Born to Charles and Caroline Drexler of Chesaning, Michigan, married to the late Clyde N. Smith for 60 years. Edna is survived by her children Paul (Marybeth Pieri-Smith), Jeanne Barr (Ken), Joyce, Carol Harms (Craig), LaVonne Marshall (Pat), Hugh (Lisa), her sister Jeanette Schulte, 11 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons Mark and Thomas, sister Mildred Bell, and brothers Harold, Walter, Wayne and Carl Drexler. Edna graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint in the mid-thirties and embarked on an 11-year career with Eaton Manufacturing, retiring to become a full-time wife and mother. After raising her children, she focused her energies on being a Grandmother Extraordinaire and gave back to her community as a longtime volunteer with God's Kitchen and Senior Meals on Wheels. Edna was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Grand Rapids; due to construction, a Mass of Christian Burial and Committal Service will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 733 Bridge St. NW, on Monday, July 13, at 11:00 a.m. She will repose at the church one-half hour prior to the Mass. Her family will receive visitors Sunday, July 12, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. NW. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Anthony Parish, 2510 Richmond St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Green Acres Assisted Living and Gentiva Hospice for their excellent support and care.

Carol and family I am very sorry for your loss. Your mother was blessed with marriage, children and grandchildren and a long life to enjoy these blessings. Thinking of you during this time of grief and loss.

For Carol, Craig and the Smith Family: So sad to learn of the loss of your Sweet Mother and another member of the Greatest Generation. Although I didn't know her, through the stories you shared of her, it was clear that she lived a full life dedicated to her Church, her Children and her Community. She leaves you with an amazing legacy of love and lasting memories.
