ALEXIS, ILL. - Mrs. Marilyn K. Clawson, 83, of Alexis, Ill., died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Ill.
She was born Marilyn Murriel Kirby on Jan. 23, 1932, in Attica, the daughter of Russell and Stella (Solomon) Kirby. She was married from 1952-1979 to Dr. Robert L. Clawson. She later married Andrew McCauley, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Jeffrey T. Clawson of Albion, Iowa; two daughters, Bonnie (and Craig) Inman of Kansas City, Mo., and Marilou (and Duane) Mol of Alexis, Ill.; one grandson, Joshua Clawson; four sisters, Jennie Bennett and Dorothy McMurtrie, both of Attica, Margaret Bell of Lafayette, and Sharla (and Gil) Quinones of Stockton, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and Clifford, and two sisters, Geraldine and Gwen.
Marilyn graduated from Attica High School, where she was a Red Rambler Cheerleader. She competed in the Miss Indiana pageant and was voted Miss Congeniality. After raising her children, she became a branch manager at Manpower Temporary Services, both in Marshalltown, Iowa, and in the San Francisco Bay area. She loved to sing, and performed semi-professionally with a band for many years. She was a member of the Bach-to-Bop Club in Marshalltown, and also performed with the Vaudeville Club in San Francisco. She moved to the Galesburg, Ill., area five years ago and attended the First Methodist Church.
Marilyn loved her family, friends, her children, and her grandson. She also loved animals and especially her pets.
As she wished, cremation will be accorded, and no visitation or service is planned.
Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family.

I grew up hanging out with Marilyn's son, Jeff. I stayed overnight many times at their house outside of Marshalltown and the family was great. We swam together for years and swim meets dominated the summers, Marilyn was often there. Wonderful, wonderful memories.

I worked with Marilyn at the Manpower Office in Marshalltown Ia and remember her fondly. She was great to work with and a very caring woman. I am sure her family will miss her greatly.
