Michell, Maria
Maria Amparo MIchell, the "brown eyed girl" whose eyes made you feel like the most important person in the world, left to start her new life with our Lord on Sunday, July 19 at 7:30 am. Born May 5, 1928 in Arteaga, Michoacan, Mexico, she was the daughter of writer-poet, artist and self-made businesswoman, Aurora Garcia. Her father was Dunstano Morfin, a beloved public servant who dedicated his life to helping the people of Michoacan, Mexico starting at the turn of the century during Mexico's Revolution and later as the country addressed ongoing land distribution, agrarian rights issues and the rights of Mexican farmers who were recruited to work US fields, during the wars. Maria was a dynamic, vibrant woman who made a difference in the lives of everyone she touched. She and her husband, Mr. Mike, settled in Chicago where they raised four children. The socially conscious mom fought for the rights of others including Cesar Chavez's United Farm Workers Union. Maria was invited to work for the Chicago Department of Human Services, as a social worker, and was honored by the office of Mayor Daley for her service.
She is survived by her four children: Henry, Pat, George and Bob. She left behind 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who love her along with many, many friends. Henry's children include: Alex, Lina-Patricia, Andrea, and Samantha. Pat's include: Alexa, Karian, Mghnon, and Andrew. George's children include: Larisa, Kristina, Adam, George Matthew, Benjamin, and Jessica. Bob's children include; Rebecca-Lily, Isabella, and Jake. Her great grand children are Alejandro, Ethan and Santiago. She also has a nephew, Hector Jr., his wife Lily, their daughter Heather, and a niece, Maria del Carmen Morfin and her husband Edmund Gress.
Living in Mexico, she has 3 loving brothers and sister-in-laws, Carlos and his wife Aura, Hector and his wife Malena, Guillermo and his wife Maria del Carmen, and two nieces, Malenita and Letty, and their children, Malenita, Alejandro, Ana Paola, Santiago and Pablito.
The Goodwill Ambassador of the Darien North McDonald's, "la Abuelita," as she was lovingly called by so many of her fans and friends, will be missed.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 26 from 2 - 4pm and 7 - 9pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, Stamford, CT. On Monday, July 27, visitation at the funeral home will be from 9 - 10am. Dear Bob,
It is with sadness in my heart as I write these few lines of condolences. Your memories of your Mom remind me so much of my own as she lost her life to another terrible illness, alzheimer. The passing of one's Mother is such a difficult life event to accept. Her influence, love, kindness and respect for others always remains with us but not having her nearby leaves us with an empty and longing feeling.
Please accept my sincere condolences and hope that the celebration of her life will outweigh the pain shared by all with her passing.
Your friend,
Carlos and Fran Bernard

I have just learned of the sad death of your mother. I cannot express the sadness I feel at this time.
I know that words can give little consolation to relieve grief but I should like you to know that I too will be praying for her.

Dear Bob,
We are now in the same boat, my mom died on Sunday too. You told me you lost your dad a few months ago. I lost mine 23 years ago and the pain is the same.
Asta luego!

Dear Bob,
I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. While I only had the privilege of meeting her twice, and albeit during her fading hours, her spark of kindness a spark so clearly evident in Becky, Isabella, Jake and you shines brightly.

SALMO 23
El Señor es mi Pastor
Salmo de David.
El Señor es mi pastor;
nada me falta.
Me hace descansar en verdes pastos,
me guía a arroyos de tranquilas aguas,
me da nuevas fuerzas
y me lleva por caminos rectos
haciendo honor a su nombre.
Aunque pase por el más oscuro de los valles,
no temeré peligro alguno,
porque tú, Señor, estás conmigo;
tu vara y tu cayado me inspiran confianza.
Me has preparado un banquete
ante los ojos de mis enemigos;
has vertido perfume sobre mi cabeza
y has llenado mi copa a rebosar.
Tu bondad y tu amor me acompañan
a lo largo de mis días,
y en tu casa, oh Señor, por siempre viviré.
Para ti abuelita, con todo mi amor...

Dear Henry, Pat, George and Bob,
Amparo was truly an amazing woman and I feel very lucky to have met her. Back then in Patzcuaro where she was a lot more than a friendly neighbor, and more recently in Stamford, where we had a lovely time together, her very warm personality and overwhelming kindness won everybody's heart. She will be missed, but will live in the memory of all those whose lives she touched.
