Perry Shumard
Perry Lee Shumard, 66, of Galesburg, Ill., was born June 27, 1949, in Galesburg, Ill., and died at 11:52 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Shumard retired as a tech sergeant after 20 1/2 years in the U.S. Air Force, his last station, Scott Air Force Base, Ill. He was past treasurer of the Retired Air Force Association Mid Illinois First Chapter.
Perry and his wife, Sandy, were the owners and operators of Old Peking Restaurant for 21 years. They retired Jan. 1, 2015. He had served as president of the Restaurant and Lodge Association for the Galesburg Area. He loved books and had collected over 50,000. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson. Perry graduated from Galesburg High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Eugene and Lois Ann Rohr Shumard; and his two brothers, Paul Keith and Kenneth Eugene Shumard.
Surviving are his wife, Yu Chen "Sandy" Shumard, whom he married in 1975, in Taiwan; three daughters, Tresa Lin Shumard of Las Vegas, Nev., Jolene Ann Hensley of East Peoria, Ill., and Denise Brenda (Thomas) Nobles of Suffolk, Va.; his two brothers, Ricky LeRoy (Myrna Benson) Shumard and Jacky David Shumard, both of Galesburg, Ill.; his three sisters, Mary Emily (Kenneth) Benham of Wataga, Ill., Naomi Marie (Gary) Hulett of Hills, Iowa, and Rebecca Lynn (Michael) Shih of Hookset, N.H.; and his grandson, Benjamin Allen Hensley.

Funeral: The family will have a celebration of Perry's life from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, Galesburg, Ill. Cremation will be accorded following the celebration.
