Maxine Ernst Foster, 90, a longtime resident of Stamford, Conn., passed away on July 23, 2015. Born Maxine Lucile Field on February 22, 1925 in Bagley, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Rose (née Cloe) Field, and cared for by her beloved aunt and uncle, Edna and John Weaver. A graduate of the University of Missouri, she was a teacher in the Connecticut school system and served as a Field Director for the Girl Scouts of America in Los Angeles and as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts in Stamford. She enjoyed spending winters in St. Croix.
Aside from her parents, aunt and uncle, Maxine was predeceased by her first husband, E. Anthony Ernst, her second husband following her first husband’s death, Norman P. Foster, her brother, Keith C. Field, and her sister-in-law, Gloria Adelson Field.
Maxine is survived by her children, Emily Aubrey (Kent), John Ernst, Catherine De Vita (Vincent), Margaret Ernst and Joseph Ernst, her grandchildren, Stephen, Brian, Emilio, Suzanne, Katrina, John and Alexandra, and her niece Ellen and nephew Charles.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT. There will be a memorial Mass held on Monday, August 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo Catholic Church, 24 Roxbury Rd, Stamford, CT 06902. Contributions in Maxine’s memory may be made to Trinity Catholic High School, 926 Newfield Ave., Stamford.
