Diedrich, Norbert
Norbert Fredrick Diedrich, 88, passed away on July 31, 2015 at the Golden Living Center of Abbotsford. Memorial services will be Thursday Aug 6, 2015 at 4:00PM at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, WI. Pastor Bruce Jahnke of the E Free Church will be officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Military Honors will be provided by Colby VFW post #2227.
Norb was born April 18, 1927 in Colby to Frederick & Lena Diedrich. He was raised and attended school in Colby. He joined the Navy and is a veteran of WWII and the Korean war. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Huber-Schmitt-Bruesewitz-Decker VFW Post 2227, served as commander from 1974 to 1977 and always enjoyed spending time with his friends there.
Norb's favorite hangout was Amber's Café in Colby—owned by his granddaughter. He'd spend hours there most days visiting and joking with customers, just staying in touch with the townspeople.
He married Nettie Mae "Bunny" Correira Bunting on Oct 30, 1948 and together raised 6 children.
Norb was a truck driver—he drove truck in Milwaukee for many years, then for Schjoneman's in Colby finally, semi-retired, he drove truck for Abbyland until he had to quit due to declining health.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (Marcia) of Colby, Thomas (Terri) of Amherst, David (Darlene) of Colby; two daughters; Susan (Scott) Choitz of Colby, and Sandra (David) Witt of Colby. He is also survived by one brother, Carl (Nancy) of Tripoli; one sister, Dee Werlinger of West Allis; 14 grandchildren and15 great- grandchildren.
Norbert was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Bunny; one son, James; brothers Harold & Fredrick; sister Joyce Moesch, and one grandson Ronald.
