Samuel J. Carrera, 97, of Middletown entered into eternal rest peacefully on Friday August 14, 2015 at Frey Village Nursing Center, Middletown.
Sam was born on June 7, 1918 in Scranton, PA and was the son of the late Salvatore and Rose Johns Carrera.
He was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown, the former Steelton V.F.W. post 710, and the Middletown American Legion Post 594. He was a US Air Force Veteran having served during WWII. Sam also was retired from the federal government where he worked as an inspector for civil services.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 75 years, Elizabeth M. Carrera in 2008, his son, Richard J. Carrera in 1969, two brothers, Joseph Carrera and Michael Carrera, and a sister Theresa Frank.
Samuel is survived by his loving children, Salvatore G. and wife Cheryl Carrera of Ft. Meyers, FL, Alfred C. Carrera of Harrisonville, PA, Robert J. and wife Ruth Carrera of Enola, and James J. Carrera of Middletown; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 280 N. Race St. Middletown PA 17057 with the Rev. Ted Keating as celebrant. There will be a viewing from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass, Friday in the narthex of the church.
Burial with full military honors by the will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Middletown.
The family has entrusted the Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middletown to handle the funeral arrangements.
