Edmond Daniel Dollar, Jr., 84, died Saturday evening, August 15, 2015. Dan was son of Edmond “Eddie” and Elsie Shook Dollar and lived his entire life in Memphis. While still in Central High School, Dan began working for Christie Cut Stone Company part time as a draftsman. Except for the years he served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict, he spent his entire working career there, becoming part owner of the firm. His personal architectural handiwork can be seen around town in many homes and prominent buildings. He was especially pleased to have done stonework on remodeled buildings Downtown and on new and restored buildings of Memphis State University and Rhodes College. Dan was baptized in 1944 by Burton Coffman during a gospel meeting at the Union Avenue Church of Christ. After a series of strokes, Dan was cared for by the staff at Kirby Pines Retirement Center and by his dedicated and loyal caretaker, Fronia Murray. He is survived by two foster children: Tina Underwood Bowie (Mrs. Steve) and Nim Underwood, and their families, Betty (Pankey) Cannon, their foster mother, all of Memphis; two sisters: Kathryn McGlothlin (Mrs. Ray) of Abilene, Texas and Dorothy Cunningham (Mrs. Joe) of Lubbock, Texas and their families; and a half brother, Robert Earl Dollar and his family of Memphis -- also many cousins and their families and a host of friends. Bill and Lynda Shelton and Bond Christie and his family were like family to Dan. The owners, cooks and many of the wait staff at the Barksdale Cafe, where Dan ate regularly for many years, were among his good friends and encouragers. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m, Wednesday, August 19 in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene Road, under auspices of High Point Funeral Home. Instead of flowers, memorials may be sent in Dan’s honor to Harding Academy or a charity of one’s own choice. High Point Funeral Home (901)454-5795 www.HighPointChapel.com
