Anthony J. Matala, 72 of Hummelstown, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday August, 26, 2015 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on November 25, 1942 in Eynon PA and was the son of the late Anthony S. and Cecelia Chervinak Matala.
Anthony was a member of Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Middletown. He enjoyed sports, gardening, coaching, going to his grandchildren's sporting events but his greatest joy of all came from the love he gave and received from his family, especially his grandchildren who affectionately called him Pappy.
He was a graduate of Archbald High School and The University of Scranton.
He was retired from the Federal Government where he was an Accountant for the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command and he later was employed at Dauphin County where he was on the Tip Staff at the Dauphin County Courthouse.
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by a brother, James F. Matala.
Anthony is survived by his loving companion of 26 years, Joanne Wren, with whom he lived; daughter, Stacy L. Armstrong and her husband Robert of Mechanicsburg; son, Anthony J. Matala and his wife Sharon of Davidsonville, MD; grandchildren, Lauren and Benjamin Armstrong, Anton, Ava and Cooper Matala and Kristopher A. Wren; sister, Patricia Matala of Eynon, PA; numerous cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 280 N. Race St. Middletown with the Rev. Ted Keating as celebrant. There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Middletown with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8:00 pm.
Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in Anthony's name may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (LLS). Donations can be made via www.lls.org/donate or mailed to 3601 Eisenhower Avenue, Suite 450, Alexandria, VA 22304.
