Mr. Doyce Bennett Ward, 83, went to be with his Lord this Friday, August 28, 2015 at the V.A. Nursing Home in Jackson. Visitation will be Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 2 to 5 PM and Monday, August 31, 2015 from 10 to 11 AM at Lakewood Funeral Home, Jackson, Ms. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 11 AM with interment to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Services will be officiated by Bro. Lawrence Baylot.
Mr. Ward was born on January 7, 1932 to John Thomas and Catherine Ward in French Camp, MS. He served in the US Army then returned home where he furthered his education at Southern Miss, Tulane, and Berkley pursuing a career in social work. He retired from MS State Hospital as Director of Social Services. Mr. Ward was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Markham Ward, Billy Ward, Warren Ward; and sisters, Bell Martin, Mamie Johnson, Ruby Flanagan and Margie Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie L. Ward; children, Steve Ward (Donna), Tommy Ward, Debbie Dunlap (Fred); brother, Bobby Ward; brother-in-law, Bill Johnson; grand children, Matt Dunlap (Megan), Cliff Dunlap, Kaylan Ward, Angel Hager and Victoria Simpson (Cory); 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Virgie, I'm so sorry for your loss. Doyce was such a sweet man and my parents enjoyed his many visits. I'm sure they are having quite a reunion in heaven. May the Lord comfort you in the coming days.

Mr. Ward was my first "boss" out of college. He was always so kind and fair to his staff, and very helpful to me. I last saw him over twenty-five years ago, but I am very sad to learn of his passing. My condolences to his family.

Mr. Ward was such a fine man with a great sense of humor. My boss for many years. He taught everyone a good work ethic and was respected for his good work. I will truly miss Mr. Ward.
