Richard (Dick) W. Hodgkin, Sr., 76
GORHAM - Richard (Dick) W. Hodgkin, Sr. died on Sept. 10, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Gorham on Jan. 27, 1939, he was the son of Herman and Emma (Jermery) Hodgkin. He was raised in Gorham.
On Dec. 31, 1959, he married Alice N. Foss in Portland. He was a long time member of the Portland Eagles and belonged to the Windham Eagles. He served as Chaplin in Portland.
Dick worked for several years as a machinist at the Reece Corporation.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Alice, in 2013; two sons, Danny in 1962, and Richard (Dickie) the second in 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Thurlow and her partner, Scott Curit, and Kelly A. Hodgkin, all of Gorham, one son, Rusty G. Hodgkin, Sr. and his wife, Sarah of Standish; two sisters, Rose Harriman of Gorham, and Marion Soule of Portland; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Shiann and her husband Tom, Jesse, Danny, Savannah, Brandon, and Rusty, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Brittany, Josh, Danielle, Arianna, and Zoey.
He will be sadly missed by many.
Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Rd., Windham. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at the chapel. Burial will be private and at a later date. For online condolences, please visit

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this time. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring you hope. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
