Douglas J. Smith, 64, of Jackson Twp., passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Sept., 15, 2015. He was born in Bayonne on Dec. 22, 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1973. He worked as a computer repairman and owned his own business, 9800 Service, Inc. All will remember Douglas's kindness, generosity, and easy-going manner. His passion for fishing, especially with his children and grandchildren, was evident to everyone.
His parents, Harold R. Smith, Sr. and Dorothy V. (Feilitzsch) Smith, predeceased Douglas. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Deborah J. Smith; his children, Jessica H. (Marcus) Colyer, M.D. of Kensington, MD, and Jason D. Smith of Old Bridge; his 3 grandchildren, Jacob D. Colyer, Ethan J. Colyer, and Emelyn H. Colyer; his siblings, Harold R. Smith, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, and Doreen R. (Howard) Nevin of Laurel, MD; his nephew, Thomas P. (Jennifer) Myers, Jr. of Plymouth Meeting, PA; his niece, Denise M. Myers of Franklin; his cousin, Caryn M. (Mark) Giacona, M.D. of Tinton Falls; and many loving family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015 at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A private cremation will follow.
