Nancy J. Brand, age 81, of Savannah, Ga., and a longtime former Sturgis resident, passed away early Monday morning, Sept. 21, 2015, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
She was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Sturgis, a daughter of the late Samuel Glenn and Margaret Alice (Metzger) Shauver.
Nancy was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1952 and resided her entire life in Sturgis until 2015, when she moved to Savannah to be closer to her son.
On Dec. 27, 1952, she married Robert M. Brand at First Baptist Church in Sturgis. He died Oct. 29, 2005.
Nancy retired from Kendrick Stationers in Sturgis following 64 years of dedicated employment. She also had worked at Porter Drug Store in Sturgis.
She was a member of Sturgis Missionary Church, Eagles Lodge #1314, where she was a past president of the women's auxiliary and was also a member of Capt. John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW women's auxiliary. Nancy enjoyed playing cards, golfing and bowling.
Nancy is survived by a son, William (Jacqueline) Brand of Savannah, Ga.; two grandsons, William (Karrie) Brand of Gastonia, N.C., and Robert W. (Stephanie) Brand of Gastonia; three great-grandchildren, William Brand III, Rebekah Brand and Andrea Brand; two step-grandchildren, Nicklas Barber of Houghton and Benjamin Barber of Seattle; a sister, June S. Kaas of Appleton, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Nancy Brand will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bob Renner of Sturgis Missionary Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Brand's memory consider Three Rivers Health Hospice, 633 S. Erie St., Three Rivers, MI 49093.
