Messina, Leon A. Leon A. Messina, age 89, born October 25, 1925 passed away peacefully on September 29, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Alfano Messina. He was born in New Orleans, LA to Angelo F. Messina and Mary Neathery Messina. He and his wife have resided in Slidell, LA for the past 58 years. He served two enlistments in the military; in the United States Navy and the Army Air Corps, during World War II and beyond. He was the lightweight boxing champion, during his time in the Navy. He served as a Sheriff Reservist for St. Tammy Parish and went on to retire from the Lake Front Airport as a Flight Data Supervisor. In his youth and into his thirties, Leon was a talented roller skate dancer and avid bowler. In his later life, he and Mary Ann did crafts together and loved to socialize with their family and friends at the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos. He was also known to be an expert at the claw machine, delighting the children of the family with many stuffed animals over the years. You could always count on Leon to tell you "Drive careful" when you parted ways. He is remembered by his children and their spouses: The late Andrew J. Messina (wife Sandy), Annette Kinchen, Leonard Messina (wife Cindy). His grandchildren and their spouses: Robert Messina (wife Deb), Nicholas M. Kinchen, Pamela Messina, Paul Messina, Joshua D. Kinchen (wife Denise), Ryan Messina (wife Stephanie). His Great Grandchildren: Destiny Messina, Nicholas M. Kinchen Jr., Alexis M. Messina, Elizabeth C. Kinchen, Bryce Ritter, and Sophie Taylor. Service and burial will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Slidell LA, date and time to be determined. Arrangement by Bagnell & Son Funeral Home of Covington, LA.
