Richard P. "Rick" Szymaszek
of Lowell; 52
LOWELL -- Richard P. "Rick" Szymaszek, 52, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 3, 2015 with his companion, Deb Catarius at his side.
Richard was born in Lowell on January 14, 1963. He was the youngest child of Helen (Piekos) Szymaszek of Lowell and the late Edward L. Szymaszek.
Rick worked as a journeyman electrician for over thirty years as a member of Local IBEW 103 in Boston, and worked on many job sites in and around Boston during his career.
He loved cooking, sports (especially football), all electronics, reading, music and maintaining the Polish traditions that he grew up with. He also enjoyed playing poker and going out for Chinese food. He was a quiet man, but you were lucky if you knew him and luckier if he called you a friend. Rick had a wicked sense of humor and was always teasing people. He was devoted to his mother and his family and loved animals, especially Mocha, one of the cats he had during his life. A bright light has been extinguished from all of our lives and he will be missed everyday.
In addition to his mother and girlfriend, Rick is survived by his sisters, Ellen Selfridge and her husband Eric of Sanford, ME, Mary Ann Greenwood of Littleton, MA; his brother Edward J. Szymaszek and his wife June of Dracut; nieces and nephews Kimberly Shaw and her husband Jamie, Amy Turgeon and her husband Bill, Matthew Szymaszek and his wife Sarah, Kara Arpin and her husband Todd, Katie Szymaszek and her fiancé T J Anderson, and Alyson Hayward and her husband Chris. He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews, Sarah and Brian Shaw, Carly and Kendra Turgeon, Cameron Arpin, and Chloe Szymaszek. Deb's daughters, Brianna Lacroix, Bethanie Lacroix and Deb's grandson, Johnnie. He is also survived by his life time friend, John Skaltsas, one aunt and many cousins.
SZYMASZEK -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on WEDNESDAY, Oct. 7th from 5 until 8 p.m. His Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on THURSDAY, Oct. 7th at 9 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Polish Church. Interment to follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
