Joseph Allan Homant
Joseph Allan Homant passed away at home early Thursday morning, October 8, 2015. A lovable curmudgeon, he was deeply loved by his wife Susanne, who will miss him always for his unique way of handling the world, and for his wonderful sense of humor. He was born in Alpena, MI to Leo and Helen Homant on July 26, 1939. Joe was a self-made man, building a successful business in Michigan called Homant Quality Water that he operated until his retirement to Florida in 2000. Known for his honesty, he earned the respect and support of the communities he served in the Lansing, MI area. He was an avid golfer, and met Susanne on a golf blind date in 1989. They married in 1990, and have a blended family of five children and 15 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was an excellent athlete, enjoyed competitive tennis until his retirement, and was also known to spend a weekend on the Michigan ski slopes from time to time. Moving to Florida in retirement was a dream, and he loved Tallahassee, his "retirement cottage", and his friends at Golden Eagle. Joe was a great supporter of the life work of Susanne and her efforts to make the world of work more accessible to talented people with disabilities. He often accompanied her to work events, as support and to interact with young job seekers.
Besides his wife Susanne, he leaves to grieve his passing his daughters Pam McConnell of Lansing, MI; Theresa Switalski (Jerry) of Jackson, TN; Anne Browne (Keith) of Fenton, MI; son Steve Homant (Cindi) of Holt, MI; and son Daniel Cook (finance' Ellen Whiting) of Manhattan, IL. Grandchildren and great grandchildren are: Carl, Claire, Lucy, Gordy, Grayson, Alison, Hannah, Angel, Alicia, Austin, Jenny, Jordan, Avery, Emma and Daniel.
