'Chubby' Carol Montello HOPEWELL "Chubby" Carol Montello, born in 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully in her luncheonette in Hopewell on Oct. 11, 2015, surrounded by friends and family. Proud owner of Chubby's Luncheonette, formerly Rose and Chubby's, she served the community for over 35 years. Chubby was known for her generosity and her delicious food. People came from near and far for her coffee, eggs, and burgers, and her counter was the community center of Hopewell for years. Chubby was a pillar in the borough, known for her compassion and open door, even if you had to pour your own cup of coffee. Her weekly trips to the Trenton Farmers Market were a highlight for Chubby. She delighted meeting the farmers and choosing the freshest eggs, meat, and produce long before farm-to-table became popular. Chubby loved the shore and Atlantic City and, when younger, she enjoyed bowling and bingo. She loved children and animals and walking through town talking to her neighbors. She leaves behind her best friend and business partner, Rose Sponholtz, and Rose's two children, Nancy and William. She is survived by her three girls, Joanne Farrugia (Dean Smith), Michelle Hamilton (Jeff Hoagland), and Lyn Farrugia (Jon Cross), and her beloved grandchildren, Felix, Max, Zachary, Sydney, Emerson, and Julia. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the Cromwell-Immordino Memorial Home, 2560 Pennington Rd., Pennington, NJ 08534 (located at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home). Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the memorial home, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery. Afterwards, all are welcome to celebrate her life and share stories at an open house at the Luncheonette at 1 Railroad Place. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hopewell Fire Department, 4 Columbia Ave., Hopewell, NJ 08525. To the Family & Friend of Ms. Montello, I am so sorry for your loss. I read her story this morning of her passing and it moved me. She was loved by everyone that she met. It was so touching to know that she died where she spent the majority of her time at the luncheonette surrounded by her family and friends alike. May she Rest in Peace and please accept my condolences for her passing. Bless her heart. From what I read, she was a wonderful person. The world needs more people like Ms. Montello

We will miss you Chubby. You were one of a kind and so loving under that tough exterior. My daughter , husband and I enjoyed many breakfasts at Chubby's. When my daughter was an infant and toddler, Chubby would scoop her up and hold her while making those eggs . What a loss to us all. My deepest condolences to her family. With love and happy memories of Chubby.

So sorry to hear of Chubbys passing. I will always think of her as a friend. She loved my kids as children and always thought of them when shopping at the farmers market. Every week she bought Halo Farms Fruit Juice for them just because they liked it. My heart felt condolences. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sad to hear of Chubby's passing. She was the sweetest person. My family and I live right across the street from Chubby's and for years we would go have breakfast or lunch. I remember my son Glenn, as a toddler, playing under the table. Rose was so nice to us, but Chubby to a shine to my little red head, who is 32 now. Whenever he was back in town, he would visit Chubby's and she always stopped me on my walks, gave me a big hug and asked "how's our boy?" Well, he is sad today, as is my daughter and my husband and me. We so appreciate the many years of visits to this Hopewell gem of a place!

So sorry for the loss of our friend to all. Don't know anyone she didn't know. From growing up there to having my daughters Baptism party there and other family events. She always took care of you and asked how you were. You will be missed Chubby. Sandi Procaccini

So very sorry for your loss. I remember sitting at Chubby's lunch counter enjoying milk shakes and ice cream sodas as a kid. My dad and brother enjoyed coffee and breakfast very early in the morning for many years at the Luncheonette.
