Elizabeth Y. Kirby Cherished family matriarch Elizabeth Y. (Sawyer) Kirby, 72, of Newark, N.J., departed this life on Oct. 29, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, North Broad and Chestnut Streets, Elizabeth, N.J., Father Andy Moore, pastor. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until time of services. Arrangements are in the loving care of the Nesbitt Funeral Home, 165 Madison Ave., Elizabeth. Mrs. Kirby retired from the Newark Board of Education (2013). She was affiliated with Eastern Star and a great Cub Scout mother. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Elizabeth leaves to cherish her husband of 53 years, Eugene Kirby Sr.; sons, Eugene Kirby Jr (Cheryl) and Alphonso Kirby, and daughter, Gloria Kirby; brothers, Alphonso Sawyer and Rudolf Sawyer; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; niece, Nina White, and many other nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
