POWELL — Howard C. Meacham Jr., 81, of Powell, Ohio, on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 peacefully entered the Kingdom of Heaven with his children and beloved cat, Red, by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Constance Meacham of Randolph Ohio; and his wife of 41 years, Jean Owen Meacham.
He is survived by his three sisters, Margaret (Bill) Mihalyi, Eleanor (Andy) Broscoe, and Marian (Roald) Shern; and his children, Mark, Doug (Linda) and Beth Meacham, along with his five grandchildren.
He grew up in Randolph Ohio, and attended The Ohio State University, where he graduated with his Master's Degree in Engineering.
Howard was a Mechanical Engineer for Battelle Memorial Institute for 33 years, where he worked on many diverse projects in Acoustics and Vibration. These projects took him around the world, from mechanical tank treads in Europe to high speed trains in Japan. He was an accomplished world traveler, visiting from Alaska to New Zealand, China to Europe. Over the past 8 years he made many memorable trips with his best friend and traveling companion, Judy Swabby. Of his travels, his favorite was the yearly trip to the cabin in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan with his family. A year never passed without Howard's special ice cream outing with his grandchildren in the "Old Red Truck." Although he was not much of a sports fan, he always rooted for his Buckeyes. He was a regular at Northam Park and Upper Arlington High School where his children participated in sports year round; then continued the tradition of cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. He also loved all kinds of music, from Handel's Messiah to Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire. He found great pleasure, hearing his grandchildren perform and sing and play piano for him. In the spring time, he passionately oversaw a successful and much sought after Maple Syrup operation on the Meacham Farm. He loved to help people. He was an avid automobile fan, especially of his Packards ("Ask the Man who owns one"). Howard was always thrilled to drive his classic cars in the annual Upper Arlington, 4th of July Parade.

So sorry for your loss. I knew his sister Margaret when her husband, Bill, was my music teacher in Michigan. I saw this in my local newspaper and remembered Margaret's maiden name. Peter and I will keep you and your extended family in our prayers at this difficult time. From what I have read here, I think we'd have enjoyed knowing Howard.
Sincerely,
Jean (Bird) and Peter Spike

I had the pleasure of meeting Howard last summer at the Whiteleather reunion held in the school where I was a third grader in Miss Meacham's class in 1953. Mrs. Shern and Howard were both there and I went to see Mrs. Shern once again and was happily introduced to Howard. I am sorry for your loss. He lived an amazing life.
