February 1, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Patricia Townsend on February 1, 2016. Pat was born in Strathmore Alberta on May 2, 1924, the youngest daughter of Arthur and Mary Foote. Pat married her husband Arthur in Montreal after the Second World War and spent three years in Halifax while Arthur attended law school before returning to Calgary in 1950. Pat and Arthur had a wonderful life raising their family in Calgary and later travelling to visit their children and grandchildren in Nova Scotia, Barbados and British Columbia. Pat was a volunteer for many years at the Rockyview Hospital and an avid bridge player, spending many enjoyable afternoon playing cards and sipping sherry with her bridge club. She will also be remembered for her happy and energetic personality and her never ending positive attitude. She was a wonderful, happy and warm mother and will be dearly missed. Pat is survived by her four children, John (MaryLee MacDonald) of Halifax, NS, Tom (Edna) of Jarvis Bay, AB, Elizabeth, of Tsawwassen, BC and Mark (Margaret) of Calgary. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Anna, Rebekah, Jamie Townsend; Steven, Darren and Brent Townsend; Paul and Adam Jones; Sara Townsend (Cockerill) and Tyler Townsend; and nine great-grandchildren as well as by several nieces and nephews. Pat was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Pat was predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Arthur Townsend; her brother, Donald and two sisters, Margaret and Helen. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law Marc Jones. We would like to thank the staff at Mayfair Care Centre for their warm support and care of our dear mother. A Celebration of Pat's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
