Gladys P. Akey, 90, died Wednesday at Golden Years Homestead in Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born in Butler, IN to the late Walter Henry & Hannah Ellen (Van Meter) Stewart. She married Wilbur "Pete" Akey on November 25, 1945 in the St. Joe Church of Christ and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2012.
Surviving are a son, Dean Akey of Butler, IN; daughters, Konnie Perry of Edgerton, OH, Cindy (Kenny) Furnish of Auburn, IN, Teri Reading of Kendallville, IN and Kathy Akey of LaOtto, IN; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild due March 2016; sisters, Connie Miles of Ft. Wayne, IN and Dorothy Markle of Spencerville, IN.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Rachel Akey; sons-in-law, Stan Perry & Jack Reading, Jr.; brothers, Jim and Walter Stewart and sisters, Mary Rectenwall, Edith Onstott, Audra Michael, Cora Clark & Anne Miller.
Gladys was a retired school bus driver for DeKalb Eastern School District, she loved to winter in Florida with her husband, and play golf where she won a couple of championships at the Cedar Creek Golf Course.
Calling will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from Noon - 2 pm with services following at the St. Joe Church of Christ (508 Jefferson Street) in St. Joe, IN. Pastor Lynn Hart will officiate. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, St. Joe, IN.
